GPS Setup

If you have an internal GPS (e.g. Tilt, Blackjack 2), we recommend upgrading to the WingX 2.6.1.0 Beta.
After upgrading, go to GPS, Status, Settings and select "GPS Intermediate Driver".

Create a Bluetooth link:

  • Tap on the Connection tab under Settings
  • Tap on the Bluetooth icon
    • In the Mode tab:
      • Ensure that "Turn on Bluetooth" is checked
      • Leave the other check box unchecked (I don't think it makes any difference)
    • In the Devices tab:
      • Tap on "New Partnership..."
      • Tap on the GPS that it finds, then tap on Next
      • Enter "0000" as the passkey, then tap Next (if this does not work, refer to the GPS's User Manual)
      • Check the Serial Port option, tap Finish
    • In the COM Ports tab:
      • Tap on "New Outgoing Port"
      • Tap on the GPS, and tap Next
      • Select COM7
      • Uncheck "Secure Connection"
      • Tap on Finish

Configuring WingX to use the GPS:

Use WingX 2.6's new Auto Detect feature found on the GPS Configuration and GPS Status pages.

Optionally, you may need to configure the GPS Intermediate Driver (aka GPS Manager) - see below.

Configuring the GPS Manager

This option is available on Windows Mobile 5 and later.
  1. Tap on Start, Settings, then System tab
  2. Tap on the GPS Manager icon.
    1. In the Programs tab, select COM8
    2. In the Hardware tab, select COM7 - see GPS user manual for appropriate port
    3. In the Hardware tab, select 19200 - see GPS user manual for appropriate baud rate
      • Higher is better but some GPS receivers may only work at 4800 or 9600
    4. In the Access tab, ensure that "Manage GPS..." is checked
    5. Click OK to close that screen
  3. Close the screen and go back to WingX.
  4. Under the GPS menu, select COM8 and 57600 baud
  5. Tap on GPS, Status to verify that the setup works

Note: We have assumed that the GPS COM port is COM7.  Change this setting to whatever is noted in the GPS's User Manual.
