The iPhone platform is very exciting as it allows us to push the excellent WingX user-interface even further. For example, approach charts and weather images can be zoomed by pinching - even animated weather images can be zoomed this way! Approach charts are crisp and easy to read. Even more cool, you can flip between multiple approaches to select the one you want. Only want to view ILS approaches? WingX can do that. Only want GPS approaches? WingX can do that. Don't have a GPS and also cannot fly CAT I/II/III approaches? WingX can do that too. It's like finding all the approaches you don't want, ripping them out of the binder and then alphabetically sorting the rest. It is unbelievably easy to use. We haven't forgotten about our heavy-iron customers. WingX also displays Airport Status for the major airports including General Arrival/Departure Delay Info and various other programs in effect. WingX for iPhone installs onto your iPhone or iPod Touch directly through the App Store. WingX databases are downloaded wirelessly right onto the device - therefore WingX is able to display approach charts, A/FD information, FARs, winds aloft and more while flying and no internet connection is available. We are very excited about this release - its in the App Store now! Enjoy! WingX Forum versus WingX TwitterAs you probably know, we have a very useful forum Please make full use of our forum - ask questions, help other users, it's yours! Click here to view our WingX Forum. Unfortunately as with anything online, along comes the spam, junk posts etc. We are continually purging the forum of non-WingX posts and deleting offending users. We also restrict access to the forums by not allowing IPs from Russia and other countries. Another way of getting information to our WingX users is via Twitter - our username is "mobilewingx". We just started this service yesterday. Let us know if you think tweets might be useful. Windows Mobile and BlackBerry updatesWe like to be open and honest with our customers. We were planning a very minor update to our WingX for Windows Mobile and also hoping to add DUATS support to WingX for BlackBerry earlier this year. We haven't quite got there yet although both of these releases are in QA. Why the delay? Well, clearly the iPhone release required resources. However, in addition to that, we have been negotiating with various companies who have very useful data sets and functionality that we can add to our WingX products. We have been using the time to integrate this new data into all our products. We have also been sharing technology between platforms. For example, one optimization used on the BlackBerry was retrofitted to WingX for Windows Mobile and also used on the iPhone version to speed up our weather text page. All this work has pushed things back a little. Even though you might not hear of new things from us, rest assured we are working 24/7 to bring the latest and greatest WingX to you. The end result will be a better, faster, and more complete array of WingX products. Be sure to keep your subscription current to receive the latest updates. Currency Check
Stay CurrentPlease be sure to stay current with your subscription. $99.95 for an entire year of DUATS weather briefings and flight plans, real-time TFRs, A/FD information, NACO charts, METARs, TAFs, animated weather is a steal. We have had a few users call us urgently to renew their subscription when they found out that they suddenly couldn't file a flight plan or get the latest animated RADAR. Please don't be caught on the ramp without WingX weather and DUATS. A Word from the CEO
We started as a Windows Mobile company, then we ported WingX to BlackBerry phones including the new touch-screen Storm. Now we're on the iPhone. That's exciting. We are now fulfilling the dream we had years ago when we started the company. In addition to our partnership with Jeppesen Sanderson Inc to provide their mobile solutions, we have more partnerships to announce in the upcoming weeks and months; stay tuned. FlashStarK for iPhone: I have beautiful daughters. One is pre-K and I was trying to teach her to read numbers, but SpongeBob seemed like more fun. I guess I'm not absorbent, and yellow and porous enough for her. I decided to write a very easy-to-use iPhone application to teach young kindergartener kids how to read the alphabet, digits, numbers, find missing numbers, and read words (sight and advanced). There are no flashy graphics, but there is voice - courtesy of my oldest daughter. FlashStarK is on the AppStore for $1.99. If you have a young child, take a look at FlashStarK. It took my daughter just 10-15 minutes of using it to learn to read numbers like 43, 29, 14, and 87. I wasn't able to make it to Sun-n-Fun this year, but I am looking forward to EAA Airventure in July. Please contact me if you're heading to Oshkosh, I'm always happy to meet WingX users and chat about flying and how to improve our products. Thanks again for your support. Always fly as though the DE is sitting next to you,
