WingX for the Blackberry
Getting Started

Installing WingX on your BlackBerry

Point your BlackBerry's browser to 'mobile.hiltonsoftware.com' and select 'WingX for the BlackBerry'.

Connecting WingX to the Internet

  • Are you using a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES)?  If so, ensure that Tools, Advanced, Using BES is checked - leave it unchecked if not using a BES.
  • Are you using a WiFi connection?  If so, ensure that Tools, Advanced, Use WiFi is checked - leave it unchecked if not using a WiFi connection.
  • If you continually get the Download Failure message, please refer to "TCP Setting for BlackBerry" below.

Downloading the Databases

The WingX have the following sizes:

  • Airport Database - 5MB
  • Document Database - 1MB
  • Chart Database - up to 495MB

WingX Agent

WingX Agent is a Windows desktop application whose main task is to download WingX databases via the desktop's Internet connection and send the databases via the USB cable to the device's SD Card.  To download WingX Agent, please click here and follow the instructions on the page.  The primary reason for using WingX Agent is to use the desktop's Internet connection to download the database - this will be significantly faster than using the BlackBerry's Edge connection, but roughly the same as using a WiFi connection.

Mass Storage Mode
Before connecting your BlackBerry device to the USB cable, ensure that the device's settings in Options, Media Card, are set as follows:

  • Media Card Support - On
  • Encryption Mode - Usually None although not necessarily
  • Mass Storage Mode Support - On
  • Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected - On (Prompt is OK too, just be sure to respond to the prompt when connecting)

Updating The Databases
After connecting the BlackBerry to the USB cable, ensure that the WingX ID appears in the top-right.  If not, click on the 'Update from Device' button.  This will read the WingX ID and display it.  WingX Agent is scheduled to sync with our servers every morning - you can see the time the sync will start in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.  You can force WingX Agent to sync immediately by using File, Sync.  If you leave WingX Agent minimized, but not closed, it will automatically sync every morning around 3am or so.  Your device does not need to be attached for WingX Agent to sync with our servers as long as it knows your WingX ID and displays it in the top-right.  To sync the databases that WingX Agent has downloaded, click on the "Send to BlackBerry's SD Card" button.  Be sure to close WingX on your device before sending the databases - use Tools, Close - WingX Agent will prompt you to do this step before sending the databases to the device.

Summary

Although the information above seems like a lot to remember, here are some simple guidelines.
